Most of the Idaho Forest is roadless.
In fact, more than 13.5 million acres (62% of all national forestland
in Idaho) is roadless or designated as wilderness.
Idaho's six wilderness areas cover more than 4 million acres. By law,
wilderness areas are not to be developed in any way, including by the building
of roads.
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Department of Agriculture
Forest Service administer another 11.2 million acres of roadless forestlands.
That's one-fifth the area of the entire state of Idaho!
