The Idaho Forest Products Commission is pleased to offer Forest Education Grants to educate Idaho youth. We invite proposals for projects that help youth learn more about Idaho's trees, forests and forest products. Special consideration will be given to projects that get youth out in a forest; in contact with a logger, forester or other natural resource worker; or into a facility that grows trees, or processes or uses wood products (e.g. sawmill, paper mill, furniture maker, building site, lumberyard, box maker, etc.).

Who: Teachers and others who work with youth in Idaho.

What: Grants of up to $250 to support forest-related education of Idaho's youth.

When: Applications accepted year-round. Applications received by May 15 will be considered for June 1-May 31 projects. All applicants will be notified of decisions by May 31.

IDAHO EDUCATORS RECEIVE FOREST EDUCATION GRANTS

Boise, September 12, 2011....The Idaho Forest Products Commission has awarded eleven educators with grant monies to help implement forest-related teaching in Idaho schools. Winning proposals for grants of up to $200 each were selected from applications submitted from throughout the state.

Grantees include:

   Lee Hollingsworth, Bear Lake High School, Montpelier
   Patricia Houck, Atlas and Dalton Elementary Schools, Coeur d'Alene
   Debbie Matsen, Declo Jr. High School
   Brandi Milliron, Minico High School, Rupert
   Jodie Mink, Cambridge High School
   Travis Phillips, Madison High School, Rexburg
   Joseph Timchak, Taylorview Jr. High School, Idaho Falls
   Heidi Waisanen, Genesee School
   Donna Wommack, Genesee School
   Janette Work, Lakes Magnet Middle School, Coeur d'Alene

"From music and art projects to forest field trips and hands-on investigations, these projects will help young people learn more about Idaho' trees and forests," said IFPC's Education Coordinator, Michelle Youngquist. "The Idaho Forest Products Commission is pleased to help these dedicated educators provide students with meaningful educational experiences."
