Where Do Idaho's Forest Products Go?
Idaho consistently ranks among the nation's top-five lumber-producing states. Yet Idaho consumes just 13% of its own forest product production.

So where does the rest go?

As you can see from the map (left), 85% of Idaho's forest products production goes to other states. Two percent is exported as manufactured goods.

The export of raw logs from federal lands has been banned for more than 20 years, and Idaho's legislature has virtually banned the export of logs from state-owned forests. Only a small number of raw logs from private forestlands are shipped overseas.
